THE SALVATION ARMY KICKS-OFF
"SONDAY'S COOL" PROGRAM FOR NEIGHBORHOOD YOUTH

EVENT: The Salvation Army of Greater Philadelphia invites local children to Discovery Day, a kick-off celebration for "SONday's COOL," a faith-based intervention program designed to reach out to inner-city children facing difficult situations.

Salvation Army volunteers, officers, and youth pastors offer Bible study and different activities every Saturday to neighborhood children.

The festivities will include crafts, games, prizes, and refreshments, and a visit from the characters of "Booth Tucker and the Fringle", a children's book component to the "SONday's COOL" program.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS: Nearly 25 percent of all children in the United States live in poverty or abusive situations. "SONday's COOL" is designed to increase children's self-worth and provide engaging activities while offering a Christian education component.

The Salvation Army was founded 135 years ago as a religious and social services organization. Since that time, the organization has taken a holistic approach to working with people, addressing their physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual needs. The Salvation Army provides community supportive services, residential shelters, foster care, developmental disabilities programs, correctional services programs, child development centers, after-school care and Corps Community Centers.
